Tips to Make Your Laundry Smell Better

1. Wash Clothes Promptly

It can be tempting to wait until you have a full load of laundry to throw it in the wash, but it is better to tackle it sooner rather than later. The longer you leave your dirty workout clothes on the floor, the more time bacteria has to build up and produce unwanted odor. Instead, wash smaller loads of laundry throughout the week to ensure you are removing all of the dirt and bacteria. 

 

2. Pre-Soak Clothes 

If your clothes have deep stains or a nasty odor, try pre-soaking your load of laundry. This cycle will help remove preliminary odors from clothing before washing and spinning with detergent. If needed, you can also place baking soda into the machine during this cycle for an enhanced, fresh smell.

 

3. Dry Clothes Immediately 

Do not leave your clothes in the washer for too long once they are finished with the spin cycle. Tightly rolled, damp clothes will create a musty odor if left untouched. Be sure to place them into the dryer immediately with your favorite fabric softener for a comforting, pleasant smell. 

 

4. Don’t Overload the Machine 

Overloading the washing or drying machine will NOT be beneficial in getting your laundry done sooner. Typically, machines should not be filled more than ¾ of the way, to allow clothes to move around during the process. Adding too many garments to the wash can result in uncleaned clothes and overloading the dryer will actually prohibit it from working properly. Either way, you can end up with an unwanted odor even after the whole laundry process.
